PM Shehbaz Orders Nationwide Ban on Substandard Syringes

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed a nationwide ban on the manufacturing and use of substandard syringes to curb the spread of infectious diseases. Legal action was ordered against individuals and hospitals using unauthorised syringes or showing criminal negligence. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) was also instructed to consult the medical devices industry and propose long-term policy measures to eliminate syringe-related health risks.

SECP Cracks Down on Illegal Share Transfers

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan briefed a Senate Finance and Revenue subcommittee on unauthorized share transfers and legal disputes involving forged signatures and other unlawful practices. The committee was informed that the SECP is digitalizing Pakistan’s share market to strengthen transparency, security and investor protection. The regulator also said strict action is being taken against individuals and companies involved in illegal securities transactions.

Facial Recognition Proposed for Taxpayers

A Senate parliamentary committee on finance and revenue has recommended introducing facial recognition technology to assist taxpayers whose fingerprints have faded or cannot be verified. The committee directed the Federal Board of Revenue and the National Database and Registration Authority to coordinate and urgently resolve the biometric verification issue. The proposed system could provide an alternative identity-verification method and improve taxpayers’ access to essential FBR services.

August Inflation Hits 11.15%, Rising From 9.2% in July

Pakistan’s annual consumer price inflation surged to 11.15% in August 2026, up from 9.2% in July, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. Urban inflation accelerated to 10.4%, while rural inflation remained above both the national and urban rates. On a month-on-month basis, urban prices increased by 0.9%, signaling stronger inflationary pressure across the country.
