Pakistan is targeting June 2027 to deregulate petrol prices under reforms designed to introduce market-based fuel pricing. The Petroleum Pricing Committee, chaired by Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, reviewed measures to make the pricing framework more transparent and predictable. The committee also discussed safeguards to protect consumers from excessive fuel-price volatility during the transition.

Speakers at the Act for Nutrition conference in Islamabad urged stronger public-private partnerships to tackle Pakistan’s nutrition challenges. They said policy inconsistency and weak coordination were restricting private-sector participation. Following a $10 million private investment in nutrition, workplace absenteeism reportedly fell from 70% to 40%. Participants cited World Bank estimates suggesting every dollar invested by governments in nutrition could generate up to $23 in economic benefits. Nutrition experts also called for establishing a dedicated Ministry of Nutrition.

Pakistan is seeking increased Asian Development Bank financing for public-private partnership projects, including the $10 billion Karachi-Peshawar Main Line-1 railway upgrade. An ADB delegation led by Vice President Yingming Yang is visiting Islamabad to follow up on the $10 billion Country Partnership Strategy 2026–30. Pakistan has already secured $2 billion from the Manila-based lender for the Karachi-Rohri section of the 1,670-kilometre ML-1 project, which is currently under implementation.
