Education Ministry Secures Rs5bn Grant

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training secured approval from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for a Rs5 billion supplementary grant. The funding will serve as seed money for the Daanish Schools Authority Fund and will be maintained under an endowment framework to support its long-term financial sustainability.

Bread Prices Rise Up to 9%

Bread prices in Pakistan have risen by 8% to 9% for the second time this year as manufacturers face higher electricity, gas, raw material and transportation costs. Large, medium and small plain bread now cost Rs270, Rs200 and Rs140, respectively. Bran bread has increased to Rs200, while four burger buns now cost Rs140. Small and large rusk packets have risen to Rs100 and Rs180. The school bun price remains unchanged at Rs25.

Lundali-1 Starts Gas Production in Sindh

Lundali-1 well in Sindh’s Sukhpur-II Block commenced gas production on September 6, 2026, adding 10 million standard cubic feet per day to Pakistan’s domestic supply. The well is producing at a wellhead pressure of 2,000 psi, with gas supplied to Sui Southern Gas Company Limited. OGDCL and Mari Energies each hold a 30% working interest, while Prime Global Energies operates the block with a 25% stake. The block lies in the Kirthar Foldbelt Basin, around 270 kilometres north of Karachi.

KP Approves Ehsaas Buzurg Card

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the proposed Ehsaas Buzurg Card in principle, offering free Bus Rapid Transit travel to citizens aged 60 and above. According to an official statement, the provincial government will fund the initiative at an estimated annual cost of Rs935 million.
