Can citizens get free legal guidance by phone?

The Supreme Court has inaugurated the 1818 Legal Call Centre, offering citizens a telephone facility for court-related information, free legal guidance and help accessing legal aid. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi attended the inauguration on Friday and said callers could seek guidance without visiting the Court or paying consultation fees. The centre will respond to queries about case status, hearing dates, cause lists, case fixation, filing procedures, objections and certified copies of court documents. Callers can also ask about early hearing applications and how to seek information on pending matters. An expert legal adviser will address litigation-related questions. The centre may forward callers’ names and applications to the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan for consideration through relevant legal aid arrangements. The service aims to assist people facing financial difficulties, living in remote areas or unfamiliar with court procedures.
