Yen Hits Strongest Level Since February

The Japanese yen surged on Tuesday as Asian markets struggled for direction amid mixed economic data and renewed Iranian threats in the Persian Gulf. The yen gained as much as 0.6% to 153.51 per dollar, its strongest level since February 18. Japan’s Nikkei 225 edged 0.2% higher, while MSCI’s Asia-Pacific index outside Japan rose 0.2%, supported by a 1.2% KOSPI gain. Meanwhile, oil prices and bond yields climbed, and S&P 500 e-mini futures fell 0.1%.

Pakistan Cotton Arrivals Rise 27.01% to 1.7 Million Bales

Pakistan’s cotton arrivals reached 1.696 million bales by August 31, 2026, with PCGA reporting 27.01% year-on-year growth. Improved weather and crop management supported arrivals, while the textile industry warned that hundreds of imported cotton containers remained stranded at ports due to fumigation delays. Sindh and Balochistan contributed 1.139 million bales, while Punjab recorded 557,000 bales. Sanghar led district-wise arrivals with 757,000 bales. Textile mills purchased 1.464 million bales, up 34%, as 332 ginning factories operated nationwide.
