Government Raises Rs768bn Through Treasury Bill Auction

Rs768 billion was raised by the federal government through a Treasury bill auction, while bids worth more than Rs2 trillion were submitted by banks. Government securities continue to be preferred as a low-risk investment option. Public access has also been expanded through InvestPak accounts, allowing individuals to invest directly in government papers. It is expected that broader public participation will reduce the government’s reliance on banks and allow more banking funds to be directed towards private-sector lending and economic activity.

Pakistan Targets $3bn in Saudi Food Exports

Business leader Mian Zahid Hussain has proposed a Pakistan–Saudi Arabia Agri-Food Export Task Force to help raise annual food exports to the Kingdom to $3 billion within two years. He recommended product-specific targets, monthly progress reports and faster approvals for Pakistani slaughterhouses and processing facilities. Pakistan exported about $692 million in goods to Saudi Arabia in 2025, requiring capacity to grow more than fourfold. Success will depend on competitive pricing, reliable supply, traceability, quality packaging, halal certification and compliance with Saudi food-safety regulations.

Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Trade Ties Strengthen

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have signed multiple agreements to strengthen cooperation in trade, security, education, environment and technology. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov witnessed the signing ceremony. The accords cover transit trade, extradition, scientific research, virtual assets and blockchain technologies. Both countries also approved a 2026–2027 diplomatic cooperation programme and agreements between strategic research institutes and business chambers. Lahore and Kyrgyzstan’s Osh will establish a sister-city relationship, supporting deeper cultural, commercial and institutional ties between the two countries.

Pakistan, Uzbekistan Target $2 Billion Trade

Pakistan and Uzbekistan have set a target to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion over the next five years. Direct air connectivity is also expected to expand to nine weekly flights by October 2026. The announcement was made during Uzbekistan’s 35th Independence Day reception in Islamabad, attended by Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari. The Uzbek ambassador described the proposed Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway as a vital project for strengthening regional trade, connectivity and strategic cooperation.
